I'm very, very happy about the positive feedback I received about the shared rewatch!
Good things are made to be enjoyed in good company, so... let's dive straight in.

One word of caution: I will take the liberty of skipping the series' pilot episode, The Gathering.

Season 1 suffers from enough "growing pains" of its own, and usually is better viewed once you have a fair idea of the story's Big Picture: you can then appreciate the many clues that have been scattered throughout and left there to... germinate. But sometimes it is rough going, especially with the pilot episode.

It always looked... extraneous to me, like something that does not belong to the story arc of Babylon5. The introduction of characters is handled quite well during the course of the show proper, and this pilot feels to me quite unnecessary. Even the one pivotal moment in which the Minbari assassin tells Sinclair that "There is a hole in your mind!" will be handled, and quite well, in the episode "And the sky full of stars".  Therefore I feel that no important information will be lost by diving right in.

Besides, two of the characters introduced here will be exchanged with new faces: Doctor Kyle will be replaced by Doctor Franklin,  although Kyle will be mentioned again in a nice bow to the actor.

I'm not sorry about the substitution of Laurel Takashima with Susan Ivanova, though: this is one hard-assed lady that belongs right there. (And watch out for the tight braids and the soldierly manners: on hindsight, it reminds me of another hard-assed lady...)

More, I positively loathe Delenn's make-up in the pilot episode, and I welcomed the change in the definitive version.

So I hope you will forgive me for jumping straight to episode one in my first commentary.

This will serve as a sort of master post for the whole series – if I manage it, of course.

So.... ready to get aboard the station?  Ok, follow me....

Jumpgate activated.... Getting through...  Here it is!

A shining beacon in space, all alone in the night.

Do you plan to post on particular day of week? And what about spoilers for the whole series? Will you concentrate on the episode itself or talk about bigger picture here?

I just spent a few hours between yesterday and today to look for my season one discs. The rest of the series sits on my hard drive, always ready for access... what says a lot I think:)))

I don't have exact *plans* (Farscape taught me how useless they are... LOL), but I might try for each Monday, since I have more free time on the weekend for a rewatch and the writing of the comment.

Talking about the "bigger picture" might lead to spoilers, and since I know that at least Arevhat has started recently, I would like to avoid them if I can. Of course this doesn't mean I can't *refer* to future spoilers while talking to people who know the whole story, like you. If I mention, for example, "the big event at Z'ha'dum", you will know what I mean, but a new viewer will not, and therefore be safe :-)
Thinking about it, it might be fun to make this kind of oblique remarks and watch the new viewers as they look puzzled! LOL

Did you find your season 1 discs? :-)
