My first meme!

Pick 5 TV Shows you like before reading the questions.

1 Firefly

2 Babylon 5

3 Fringe

4 Farscape

5 Game of Thrones

1. Who is your favorite character in 2? (B5)

I don't even have to think about that. It's G'Kar.

His evolution as a character, his wonderful monologues and the actor's amazing voice are among the reasons I love him.

2. Who is your least favorite character in 1? (Firefly)

Shepherd Book. Sorry, but he never really grew on me.

He's wise and kind and is prone to wonderfully understated humor but still... no way.

3. What’s your favorite episode of 4? (Farscape)

Oh no, why do I have to pick just one? *wails*

Ok, The Way We Weren't – great revelations, magnificently expressed feelings, stellar acting.

4. What is your favorite season of 5? (GoT)

Well, Season 2 is almost at an end (ep. 9 was aired a few days ago, one more to go), but I still prefer Season 1. It felt more... organic, for want of a better word, while nr. 2 took a while to get on the right track. I might change my mind once the whole saga has been filmed....

5. What’s your favorite relationship in 3? (Fringe)

It's a non-relationship: Walter and Astrid. Some of the best moments see them as protagonists.

6. Who is your anti-relationship in 2? (B5)

Mmmm... I'd say Sheridan and Anna – ok, when we see her she's not quite... herself, but still I can't picture them together. Strange, isn't it, considering the circumstances?

7. How long have you watched 1? (Firefly)

Let me see... I discovered it in 2004 or 2005 I think.

8. How did you become interested in 3? (Fringe)

I heard about it from several places, and everywhere the comments were favorable, although I was held back by the comparisons with X-Files (that I barely know, having seen just a few scattered episodes). I was afraid that the "copy" of a successful show would be sub-standard, so to speak.

Then I started watching Season 1 and despite the first few episodes and their high "monster of the week" content, I was captivated by the character of Olivia Dunham: she reminded me a little of Aeryn Sun from Farscape, so I kept watching. Now I'm glad I did, and even gladder that I can now enjoy Season 4, since it's there waiting for me to watch it at my own pace.

9. Who is your favorite actor in 4? (Farscape)

Claudia Black. Amazing performance, amazing voice, great presence.

I think she re-defined the rules for science fiction shows' female characters.

10. Which show do you prefer 1, 2, or 5? (Firefly, B5, GoT)

Tough question. I enjoy Firefly because it's crazy and fast and it's easy to love at first sight. GoT is a dream come true: one of my favorite books (ok, series of books – still-in-writing series of books... argh!), with an exceptional cast and breath-taking locations, the possibility of actually seeing what I could only picture in my mind's eyes. But Babylon 5 is (together with Farscape) the love of my tv life: if I were to mix a bit of the two, I'd say that B5 showed me that a sci-fi tv show could be *more*.

11. Which show have you seen more episodes of 1 or 3? (Firefly or Fringe)

Fringe, but only because Firefly was killed way before its time after only 14 episodes. Another victim of networks' short-sightedness and lack of contact with the viewer base. Shame on you, blind executives!

12. If you could be anyone from 4, who would you be? (Farscape)

Aeryn of course. She's brave, strong, beautiful, young – all things I'm not. If I happened to be transported on Moya, I would probably end up as Noranti: a far cleaner and far better smelling version, granted, but still Noranti.

13. How would you kill off your favorite character in 5? (GoT)

My favorite character is Tyrion. I loved him in the books, and I adore Peter Dinklage's portrayal of him on screen. I would NEVER kill him off, no way.

And just in case GRR Martin is reading this: Mr. Martin, should you decide to kill Tyrion in one of the two remaining books, know that I will pursue you to the ends of the Earth, with my Valyrian steel blade and my *dragons*, and you will not escape my vengeance!

14. Would a 3/4 crossover work? (Fringe/Farscape)

I don't think so. Crossovers are such delicate things, and to work they have to be at least similar.

On the other hand, with all those parallel worlds....

15. Pair two characters in 1 that would make an unlikely, but strangely okay couple? (Firefly)

Kaylee and Jayne. She's sweet and generous and would probably smooth the mercenary's rough edges and teach him how to get in touch with his better angels. On the other hand, since Jayne is the Firefly equivalent of Farscape's Rygel, Kaylee would have her work cut out for her...

16. Overall, which show has the better cast, 3 or 5? (Fringe, GoT)

I'd split that 50:50.

On Fringe there are two "monsters", Anna Torv and John Noble that literally steal the scene for me; which does not mean that the other performers are lagging far behind.

On GoT there are many great actors: Peter Dinklage and Charles Dance in the forefront, but many of the younger people are in the same exceptional range, above all Maisie Williams who despite her short years shows a great promise.

17. Which has the better theme music, 2 or 4? (B5 or Farscape)

Again, I'd say 50:50.

Farscape's Guy Gross has written some unforgettable pieces that I never tire of listening to: particularly for episodes like "The Locket" and "Into the Lion's Den".

B5's Christopher Franke (formerly from Tangerine Dream) used his music as a further character in each of the episodes, creating true masterpieces that have the strength and power of symphonic compositions. I dare anyone to listen to his score for "Sleeping in Light" and not shed a tear or two.

Pass it on!  Share the wonders!

Nicely done - interesting even though I only know 3/5 shows.

So, do I choose 5 shows now, like the 7 questions meme earlier this year?

Thanks!

I guess the two you don't know might be Fringe and Game of Thrones... Right?

You can choose your favorite 5, yes: for example, in John_Scorpy's meme there were BSG (which I saw but don't like all that much) and Buffy (I saw just a few scattered episodes, so I'm totally in the dark on that one).

Have fun! :-)

That is correct.

So:

Star Trek TOS
Farscape
Babylon 5
Ugly Betty
Archer

These may not be my 5 favourites, but they're all in my top 10 right now. So, do you ask me questions or do I go and answer the same ones in your post?

I copied the questions from John_Scorpy's meme post, adapting the position of the shows in the 1 to 5 numbering so that I choose to dedicate a particular question to a given show.

I'm being a bit muddy here... Sorry! :-)

I like your choice of shows--Ugly Betty and Archer are two fun ones. I always think of Ugly Betty as the Farscape of fashion shows...or something like that.

OK, my five shows and answers....

http://damnedscientist.livejournal.com/9069.html

My rec to anyone who takes this on next: Make sure you pick 5 shows you know REALLY well. They may not be your fave 5 shows, but at least you'll be able to answer the questions!
